Description

Marsh's cesspools are designed for the underground storage of rainwater, sewage and grey water. This range of holding tanks is designed in accordance with BS4994 / BSEN976. Cesspool holding tanks (or cesspits as they are sometimes known) do not have an outlet, so everything which is stored in them needs to be pumped out. There is an option for a high-level alarm that can warn you when the tank needs emptying. This cesspool holding tank has a 25-year warranty and a 50-year design life.

If storing Silage, Elsan (chemical toilet waste), or Animal waste (from Kennels, etc.), it is important to use a cesspool with a liner, as these wastes can damage the GRP tank's normal structure and cause it to leak; this also invalidates the warranty.

Shallow-dig cesspools are ideal for installations in areas with a high water table or in difficult ground conditions, such as rock. This tank can be installed in granular or concrete backfill, depending upon ground conditions. As-dug material or soil is not a suitable backfill material. If the water table (at any time of year) rises above the proposed base of the tank, it must be installed in concrete. If the ground is not free-draining (eg. clay or similar), the tank must be backfilled with concrete. Failure to select the correct backfill material for the ground conditions will invalidate the manufacturer's warranty.

As ground conditions and water table levels can change over the expected life of the tank, we strongly recommend at TFE that all tanks be concrete-backfilled to prevent future issues.
